On 9 January 2024, the Department of International and Strategic Studies, at Universiti Malaya hosted SEARCCT’s University Lecture Series (ULS) featuring a presentation titled ‘Transnational Terrorist Network’. Dr. Sheila Devi, a senior lecturer, facilitated the session conducted by Mr. Muhammad Afiq Ismaizam, SEARCCT’s research officer.
Approximately, 30 students majoring in international relations participated in the ULS. SEARCCT’s ULS serves as a public awareness campaign aimed at educating youth about the perils associated with terrorism and violent extremism. The main goals of the lecture encompasssed delineating the components of transnational terrorist networks, charting their developmental trajectory, and illustrating real world case studies. Mr. Afiq also spoke on how the transnational terrorist network can be distinguished by the key features that include the use of violence, political motivation, psychological factors and their non-state organizational structure.
