The Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter-Terrorism (SEARCCT), in collaboration with the European Union (EU) Delegation to Malaysia and the EU project Enhancing Security Cooperation In and With Asia (ESIWA) successfully organised the EU-Malaysia Maritime Counterterrorism Training Seminar for Security Practitioners. The workshop was held at Hilton Hotel, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah from 23 to 25 April 2024.This workshop was attended by 15 participants enforcement practitioners from Sabah.
The Opening Ceremony was graced by Colonel Sylvain Louvet – Military Adviser at the EU Delegation to ASEAN. Throughout the three days workshop, participants were exposed on the objectives of the workshop, emphasizing the significance of collaboration and information sharing among stakeholders.
Identification of key areas for future collaboration between the EU and Malaysia. By pinpointing common security challenges and potential cooperation zones, security practitioners can collaborate more efficiently in addressing maritime threats and counterterrorism efforts in the Tri-Border Area.
Supt Yong Thain Foh, the Director of Planning and Training Division, concluding deliver his closing remarks on day two (2). Certificates to participants and speakers also presented during the workshop. Overall, the session aimed to provide participants with a clear understanding of what to expect and the goals to be achieved during the workshop.
The workshop concluded with official visit to the ESSCOM in Lahad Datu.
