A seminar entitled “Dynamics of Youth and Terrorism: Understanding and Countering the Issue” was successfully organised from 24 May – 1 June 2021. The online seminar was organised under the ambit of the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP). SEARCCT has spear-headed the seminar since 2012. 14 participants from Algeria, Brunei, Croatia, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, South Africa, Togo, Vietnam and Zimbabwe attended the seminar. The seminar highlighted on youth empowerment where the agency of youth can be manifested through various platforms such as non-governmental organisations (NGOs), youth councils, social media and interestingly, through arts and culture.
The speakers for the seminar were law enforcement officials, legal experts, academicians, researchers, social media expert and SEARCCT’s expert from the Digital Strategic Communication Division as well as Research and Publication Division.
On the final day of the seminar, participants shared on how youth can be more involved and better engaged particularly in their roles in PCVE. The suggestions were documented in an Action Plan which called for countries to adopt a comprehensive approach in implementing PCVE approaches, developing and disseminating counter-narratives on terrorism, and encouraging youth to be involved in civil society activities, be it humanitarian, sports or volunteerism.
