The Digital Strategic Communications Division (DSCD), SEARCCT in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and European Union (EU), organised a 2-days workshop on the 17th & 18th of May 2022 with selected civil society organisations (CSOs) nationwide at Pullman hotel, KL. The ‘Monitoring and Evaluation for Resilience in Collaboration with Youth’ or MERCY was held to train and build the capacity of participating CSOs to help them design and incorporate elements of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) into their future youth & prevent violent extremism (PVE) related projects.
Around 20 participants from 12 different CSOs such as North-South Initiative, Pusat Komas, Initiate.my, Architects of Diversity and other CSOs which regularly work on youth or PVE, actively participated in this workshop.
Among the PVE and M&E experts who were conducting the workshop sessions were Thomas Koruth Samuel (P/CVE Researcher), Chetan Kumar (Peacebuilding Advisor to UNDP Bangkok), Bhasker Kafle [Regional Conflict Prevention & Peace Specialist (Asia-Pacific) UNDP], Kimberly Maldonado (PVE Community Engagement Officer, UNDP), Maya Karunaratne (Monitoring and Evaluation & Reporting Officer, UNDP) and Asrul Daniel Ahmed (Director, DSCD, SEARCCT). And among the topics covered were Assessing the Impact of PVE Initiatives, Theory of Change (ToC), Developing Indicators for M&E in PVE programmes, Gender Sensitivities, Inclusivity and Risk Mitigation in PVE Programmes.
The participants were tasked to design & develop a ToC for Youth-focused PVE Intervention as well as the M&E framework. The participants came up with brilliant project ideas and incorporated M&E components into their ideas by the end of the program. Here is a highlight video featuring all the participants, activities and the speakers.
