SEARCCT has teamed up with the Royal Malaysian Police to conduct a workshop entitled “CBRNE First Responder For Royal Malaysian Police” on 17 to 20 June 2019 at Pulapol Segamat, Johor. It was conducted specifically for the Royal Malaysian Police in line with their responsibility as a special unit to combat terrorist incidents in accordance with the instructions of the National Security Council No. 18.
A total of 32 officers ranked from Lance-corporal to Superintendent Police from the Special Forces Unit, Forensics Unit, 69 Commando and Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department attended the workshop. They received lectures from Royal Malaysia Police Bomb Unit, Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB), Malaysia Chemistry Department, University Malaya Medical Centre, Selayang Hospital, Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia which consist modules of introduction on CBRNE, way of using appropriate Personal Protective Equipment and exercise of real-life training.
The opening ceremony was officiated by ACP Mohammad Rafee Bin Abu Bakar, Assistant Director of RMP Weaponry Unit meanwhile closing ceremony was officiated by Mr Riedzal Abdul Malek, Deputy Director-General of SEARCCT.
The workshop helped participants to experience the proper way of using personal protective equipments and familiarised the equipments in the incident location. Senior officers from RMP suggested that the programme need to have a follow up with the involvement of first responders to discuss further on Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) in order to comply with the instructions of the National Security Council No. 18.
