AVIATION SECURITY (AVSEC) – BASIC

Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter-terrorism successfully organised the “Aviation Security (AVSEC) – Basic” programme. The workshop was held at Pullman Hotel Kuching, Sarawak from 9 to 11 October 2023.

The workshop was aimed at creating awareness to participants on the issues of terrorism involving civil aviation and the Malaysian government’s measures to prevent it. This workshop was attended by 22 participants comprising of Malaysian civil aviation officials and private sectors.

The speakers were established practitioners from Civil Aviation Authority Malaysia, Royal Malaysia Police, Kargo Xpress, Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad, Malaysian Immigration Department, Royal Malaysian Customs Department and Malaysia Airlines Holdings Berhad.

Throughout the three days workshop, participants were exposed to cases of aviation terrorism and preventative measures ranging from aviation legal frameworks, internal procedures of aircraft companies, Malaysia government civil aviation responses and Table Top Exercise (TTX). Overall, this workshop provided insight on importance of public-private agencies in aviation terrorism.

The workshop concluded with field exercise under the Security Tour in Kuching International Airport.

The closing ceremony was ended with presentation of certificates to participants and speakers.
