The Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter-Terrorism (SEARCCT), in
partnership with the Hedayah Center, co-organized a workshop on August 7, 2024, at
the Melia Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. This half-day event was a component of Hedayah
Center’s research initiative titled ‘Understanding and Preventing Extremism and
Violent Extremism Online in Southeast Asia.’
The workshop aimed to provide evidence-based recommendations tailored to the
Malaysian context. Participants exchanged insights, shared their efforts, and
discussed lessons learned in addressing online extremism and violent extremism.
They also explored the needs for effective responses to these risks and threats.
The sessions were led by Ms. Emma Allen, Program Manager of Hedayah’s Research
and Analysis Department, and Research Associate Mr. Denis Suljic. Opening and
closing remarks were delivered by Mr. Kennimrod Sariburaja, Director of the Research
and Publications Division at SEARCCT.
