SEARCCT has successfully concluded “Aviation Security Workshop (Basic) 2022” at St Giles The Wembley, Penang from 23rd to 25th August 2022. The workshop was attended by 30 participants from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Transport, Royal Malaysia Police, National Security Council, Royal Malaysian Customs Department, Immigration Department of Malaysia, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) and Pos Aviation.
The workshop began with an opening speech by Dato’ Ganeson Sivagurunathan, Director General of SEARCCT. Speakers were invited from the Royal Malaysia Police, CAAM, Immigration Department of Malaysia, MAHB, Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and Kargo Xpress.
The objectives of the workshop were to expose participants on issues of terrorism involving civil aviation and measures taken by the Government of Malaysian to prevent it. The workshop aims to establish Public Private Partnerships in the field of public aviation security and increase participants’ knowledge in addressing issues in civil aviation.
In addition, participants were also taken to Penang International Airport for a site visit and to observe airport security procedures. The aim is to help participants to better understand of the modules that have been delivered by the speakers.
All the participants displayed great interest and participation throughout the workshop. Participants requested for an advanced Aviation Security programme to enhance their knowledge. Participants provided positive feedback through the workshop evalution form. Moving forward, SEARCCT is currently exploring to meet the stakeholders for programmes in the future.
