The Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNe) Terrorism Awareness and Medical Emergency Consequence Management Workshop 2024 took place at University Malaysia Sabah from 16 to 18 July 2024. This comprehensive three-day workshop was organised by SEARCCT in partnership with the Fire and Rescue Department, Hospital Queen Elizabeth as well as Hospital Selayang. A total of 300 participants attended, comprising medical practitioners from various regions of Sabah.
The workshop featured expert-led sessions on various aspects of CBRNe terrorism, including overviews of terrorist tactics and mass casualty management. These informative sessions were conducted by distinguished professionals from the military, academia, and specialised departments. They provided both theoretical insights and practical knowledge, using interactive briefings and case studies to enhance understanding of how to respond to terrorist-related emergencies effectively.
In the final days, the emphasis shifted to practical, hands-on training. Participants engaged in demonstrations on decontamination procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, led by the Fire and Rescue Department. The workshop concluded with a hazard assessment exercise that simulated realistic terrorist-related scenarios, allowing participants to apply their newly acquired skills. The workshop wrapped up with a closing ceremony, where certificates were awarded to recognize participants’ proficiency in managing CBRNe terrorism and emergencies.
