CBRNe TERRORISM AWARENESS AND MEDICAL EMERGENCY CONSEQUENCE MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP HOSPITAL SULTANAH BAHIYAH, ALOR SETAR, KEDAH 29- 31 MARCH 2022

SEARCCT in collaboration with Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah and Hospital Selayang, Alor Setar with support from the Kedah State Health Department had successfully organised the “Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNe) Terrorism Awareness and Medical Emergency Consequence Management Workshop”. The workshop was held at the Dewan Besar Majlis Bandaraya Alor Setar (MBAS), and the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia Headquarters in Kedah from 29 to 31 March 2022.

The workshop was aimed at creating awareness among the medical practitioners on the use of CBRNE elements as weapon and preparing the practitioners in responding to such casualties. A total of 144 participants from hospitals and clinics in Northern Region participated in this 3-day workshop.

The speakers who lectured in this workshop were SEARCCT’s established local trainers from the Malaysian Armed Forces, Royal Malaysia Police, Ministry of Health, Department of Chemistry Malaysia, Fire and Rescue Department and Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB). The workshop began with an Opening Remark by Dr. Othman Warijo, Director of Kedah State Health Department.

During the 3-day workshop, participants were exposed to various CBRNe subjects ranging from the basics of CBRNe, mode of dispersal and managing post attack situations to emergency decontamination. The workshop provided them an insight on the significance of understanding the roles of other agencies in the event of CBRNe incidents.

The workshop concluded with a full demonstration of the CBRNe First Response Operation by the Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) Team of the Fire and Rescue Department and Medical Team from Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah followed by Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) usage. The Closing Ceremony was concluded by Dato’ Ganeson Sivagurunathan, Director-General of SEARCCT, followed by the presentation of certificates to all participants.
