The “Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Operator Training Course” took place in Pullman, Kuala Lumpur for theoretical classes and at MRANTI for practical sessions from September 2 to 13, 2024. This workshop was jointly organized by the Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter-Terrorism (SEARCCT), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), in partnership with the United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) with the sponsorship of Government of Qatar. The workshop begin with opening remarks by Ambassador Zamani Bin Ismail, Deputy Director of SEARCCT, followed by Ms. Guadulupe Megre, Chief of Special Projects Section UNOCT.
The workshop aimed to enhance understanding of operating Unmanned Aircraft Systems and addressing the threats posed by drones, UAS and other Aerial Remotely Operated Systems (AROS). Additionally, participants also practiced the training at MRANTI and delivered UAS operator courses.
This ensured that participants were equipped with the necessary tools and
knowledge to effectively address counter terrorism challenges. These exercises,
ranging from basic to advanced levels, allowed operators to hone their flying skills in real-world environments. Thus, this operator training course served to
enhance their skills in encountering these threats and working together across
various agencies.
