On August 15, 2024, the Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter-Terrorism
(SEARCCT) collaborated with Labuan Matriculation College (KML) to host a
University Lecture Series (ULS). Ms. Siti Aisyah Tajari, a Research Officer from
SEARCCT’s Research and Publications Division, delivered an insightful lecture titled
“Introduction to Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism in Malaysia.”
The session was designed to empower students with the critical thinking skills
necessary to analyse and counteract terrorist propaganda and false narratives,
effectively building a strong mental firewall against extremism. It also introduced
SEARCCT’s soft-approach strategies for countering terrorism, emphasizing the
protection of civilians, particularly within university settings. The Q&A session was
notably interactive, with students actively engaging by asking questions and sharing
their perspectives.
SEARCCT was warmly welcomed by Mr. Syahmun Yahaya, Head of the Student
Management Department, and Mr. Yusri Ismail, Education Service Officer at KML.
Mr. Syahmun Yahaya set the stage with his opening remarks, and the event
concluded with thoughtful closing remarks from Mr. Kennimrod Sariburaja, Director
of SEARCCT’s Research and Publications Division. The lecture was attended by 88
students.
